Meet Dian

Dian Thomas was blessed with the good fortune to be born and raised in breathtaking southern Utah where her father was a forest ranger. Dian’s family gave her the opportunity to learn about camping activities, outdoor cooking techniques, and many other skills for creating fun over a campfire and in the wilderness.

How It Started

As Dian grew up, she had no idea what an incredible childhood she had. (She didn’t realize how lucky she had been until she went to New York City and saw the open fire hydrants and the kids playing in the street.) Being raised at the Baker Ranger Station in Southeastern Utah, in such an open, creative environment, had a huge impression on her life. If she could dream it up and receive permission from her parents, she did it. This included everything from building two tree houses, making a canvas swimming pool, catching wild chipmunks, and much more. Adventure is her middle name.

Dian’s master’s thesis provided the basis for her first book, Roughing It Easy. Her appearance on NBC’s Tonight show propelled the book to The New York Times best-seller list where it remained all summer.

Hundreds of magazines and newspapers throughout the world have published articles written by and about Dian Thomas. In business publications, she is regarded as a leader, luminary, and pacesetter for the small-business owner and entrepreneur; in women’s and family magazines, she is the undisputed authority on outdoor fun and ideas for families.

Dian’s Professional Career

Television appearances led to contracts with NBC’s Today show, where she was a cast regular for eight years. That was followed by a six-year contract with ABC’s Home Show.

During this time, she also appeared several times on ABC’s Good Morning America and numerous other national and local television programs. She is still a sought-after presenter, speaker, and television personality.

During Dian’s 30-plus-year media career, she worked with internationally famous celebrities and world leaders. Within her media experiences with luminaries ranging from Johnny Carson to President Ronald Reagan, Dian has rubbed shoulders with experts in numerous fields.

“I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with Dian on the Home Show.  She was always so innovative and her ideas so different.  When she began on the Home and Family Show I was so glad she was able to share all her fun, wacky and easy-to-do ideas with everyone.  I always look forward to seeing her.”

Christina Ferrare, Home and Family on Hallmark Channel

“Dian made her network television debut on Today and quickly became one of our most popular featured performers.  She works magic with food and other home ideas—indoors or out. Dian has some of the most spectacular ideas and recipes you can possibly imagine.”

Tom Brokaw, NBC News

“Her outstanding contributions to the country in the fields of media, education, publishing, lectures and presentations, and corporate consulting have enriched the lives of everyone she has come in contact with.”

Orrin G. Hatch, United States Senator

Dian’s Travels

Dian did not like to read, so travel was her way of learning at the speed of travel. She started traveling with her family when they went to Yellowstone when she was just seven years old. The highlight of the trip came when she counted 34 bears.

Dian’s first flight was an adventure that took place after her first year of teaching, when she traveled to Europe for three months. Dian graduated from media travels to becoming a professional tour guide for China, Thailand, Vietnam, Peru, Europe, and South Africa. Dian will take you to meet the real people and you will see how they live.
